Coming Sunday
This Sunday is World Communion Sunday. Linda will preach on “Doing Our Duty.” The choir will sing “Pan del Cielo” to enhance the worship service.
When you arrive at worship, please take a few sticky dots from the basket down front and place them on the world map to show a place or places you have been that have been special to you We will be receiving the Peace and Global Witness offering on Sunday. 25% of this offering stays with our church to support peacemaking and reconciliation in our own country; 25% goes to our mid-council to join with other congregations to support peacemaking in our region; 25% supports the work being done by Presbyterians across the globe (including our own country) in schools, churches, and communities. Please give generously!
Sunday School starts after Fellowship time. Linda will continue with her series on the history of western Christianity and the kids will be having a short learning time with Susan downstairs during church time after they have their time in the sanctuary.

Peace and Global Witness Offering On World Communion Sunday, we celebrate that Christ’s peace extends throughout all creation. Whenever the church gathers for worship, we are assured of Christ’s peace. We celebrate that we are connected, we are loved and we are not alone. We worship together and are fed from Scripture and at Christ’s table of peace. The pursuit of peace in the name of Christ is part of an active, engaged faith — a witness to what it means for us to be the Church, together.
Through participation in the Peace & Global Witness Offering, our church is extending Christ’s peace throughout our community and our world. We begin at the communion table, with our siblings in every time and place, and we celebrate the peace we find there and commit to building a more just and peaceful world. God is with us … and God in Christ is with us through the Sacrament of Communion, celebrated on World Communion Sunday. We are not alone. Peace begins with each of us.

Jesus Said "Feed Them" The Interfaith Food Pantry is in need of donations to meet the needs of the growing number of customers. The Mission Committee will help meet this need by holding a food drive on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the South Main Kroger. Volunteers are needed to collect donations and promote the food pantry and to help afterward to weigh and stock the shelves at the food pantry. Contact Heidi Harper (harperheida@gmail.com, 540-392-0057) for details.
The time is also drawing near to Feed the Flock at Ukirk on October 14. Contact Jane Jones (JJones7@moog.com) for details and to volunteer.

Session Highlights
We were happy to have everyone with us this month. It is always a challenge to have Session meetings in the summer as so many of us travel.
We continued the discussion of the book, Sailboat Church, which members have been leading the discussion.
Treasurer, Clark Gaylord, presented the financial report. We are in stable financial shape for this time of the year.
We had a discussion of the committee structure and the possibility of restructuring committees, especially Human Resources. We will continue to look at that idea. Betsy Stinson will be taking the lead gathering current structure information.
The Session approved a grant request to Presbytery “Two Cents a Meal” for the Blacksburg Food Pantry. We have made this request successfully last year and hope we will do the same this year.
Monday night suppers continue to be very popular. We have served 2,626 meals in the first 32 weeks of 2025. The average cost of a meal is $2,07.

Dog waste can be flushed (but not cat waste). • Genetically engineered bacteria, and certain enzymes and fungi can break down plastics in landfills. • Electronics recycling at Best Buy, and Target. • AI-aided robots being used for recycling, trash pickup in cities and waterways. • Pharmaceutical changes to recyclable prescription packaging.
Things You can do at Home
• Use trash and pet waste bags that are biodegradable. • In addition to recycling cans, paper and type 1 and 2 plastics in your green trash can, also collect plastic food wrappers and return to Kroger and Food Lion, Egg cartons to EATS, batteries to Northside, other items to New River Creative Reuse Center. • Waste as little food as possible, compost at home or Compost share.

Worship Leader The role of the volunteer scripture reader is changing to expand the participation in the service, per the Worship Committee. In addition to reading the scripture lesson, the call to worship and the prayer of praise are now included in the role. The prayer and scripture will be provided in advance. Once you have read the scripture you may go sit in the congregation. Sign up to volunteer using the sign-up system. |
|
|
Volunteer Sign-up System There are a variety of ways to serve the congregation by volunteering to help in the nursery, usher, host fellowship time, or be the liturgist during worship. There is now a form on the church website where you can pick the positions you wish to fill and the dates you will serve. Go to https://www.nsidepresbburg.org/volsign/ to start.
Select a position you are interested in helping with and click the "Submit" button. You will see a form that lists open dates for that position. Select the dates you are available to help, enter your name, phone number, and email, then submit the form. You will receive a confirmation email showing the position and dates you signed up for.
As always, you will receive a reminder email the Thursday before you are scheduled to help. |
