Northside Presbyterian Church

Weekly eUpdate

August 27, 2025

Coming Sunday

Linda will preach on “Just As I Am.” Alex and Marshall Chaney will provide special music.

After church, we will have Lemonade on the Lawn (or in the Narthex depending on the weather).

New sign-up System

There are a variety of ways to serve the congregation by volunteering to help in the nursery, usher, host fellowship time, or read the scripture during worship. Typically someone emails a list of "regulars" to collect dates of availability, creates a schedule, then goes back and forth to fill open dates. The other method is to track people down during fellowship time to ask them to fill a date and position.

This process won't go away, but it will be easier with a bit of on-line help. There is now a form on the website where you can pick the positions you wish to fill and the dates you will serve. Go to https://www.nsidepresbburg.org/volsign/ to start.

Select a position you are interested in helping with and click the "Submit" button. You will see a form that lists open dates for that position. Select the dates you are available to help, enter your name, phone number, and email, then submit the form. You will receive a confirmation email showing the position and dates you signed up for.

As always, you will receive a reminder email the Thursday before you are scheduled to help.

Food Pantry Needs

The Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry is a vital lifeline, offering nourishment and hope to families facing food insecurity. As the year closes, we urgently appeal for your generosity to help us continue and expand our essential services. Your support makes a profound difference in the lives of our neighbors. There are three critical initiatives that need immediate support to ensure no one in Blacksburg goes without necessities. The three areas are turkeys and hams (T&H), hygiene (feminine hygiene products for women and girls), and diapers. If they raise $2,000 for diapers, there is a donor who will match that amount.

Prayers and Squares

The Prayers and Squares ministry group will meet in the Old Kitchen on Thursday, September 4 at 1:00 p.m. Contact Emily Davis (emily@epdavis.net, 540-392-1750) for details.

Monday Night Supper

Monday's meal was Italian stuffed shells with Italian sausage (thanks to Alex for fixing the meal), tossed salad, bread, fruit and cookies. There were 86 meals served. Helpers were George and Marge, Barbara, Alex and Marshall, Steve and Rosemary, Susan, and Heidi and Bruce.

Officer on Call

The officer on call for the week of Aug. 24-30 is Sandi Webster. She can be reached at 540-392-1710. The officer on call for the week of Aug. 31-Sept. 6 is Alex Aning. He can be reached at 540-988-1048.
