Coming Sunday This Sunday, Linda’s sermon will be on “What Do We Mean When We Say ‘‘Perseverance of the Saints?’” The choir will perform “Amazing Grace.”
We will collect our 2 Cents a Meal offering. Remember to bring your coins to dump into the tin. The pennies add up to fight hunger in the Presbytery of the Peaks and beyond. The Monday Night Supper mission has received multiple grants from this program.
The Adult Sunday School class will learn "Why and what do we sing in church?" Come to hear Reverend Linda and Marya Katz explain how they choose the music for our Northside worship services. Then hear how Walter Brueggemann begins to answer the larger question in his book A Glad Obedience.
Committees are scheduled to meet after Sunday School.

**🏈 🎤 Souper Bowl Sunday 🎤🏈** Let’s Get Ready to Rumble!
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to the most exhilarating Sunday of the year – it's Souper Bowl Sunday! That’s right, it’s the day we bring the excitement of the Super Bowl right here to Northside with a twist that’s all about giving back! |
|
|
As we gear up for the big game on February 9th, we’re launching our very own canned soup showdown! In one corner, we’ve got Team Chiefs! And in the other corner, the fierce competitors from Team Eagles! The action will take place in our narthex, where two boxes will be waiting for YOU, the amazing fans!
Here’s the play: bring in your canned soup donations and toss them into the box of the team you think will take home the title! It’s all about having a blast while supporting those in need in our community. Will it be a soup-er victory or will we see a last-minute interception? Only your donations can decide!
**The Goal:** We’re aiming for a touchdown in generosity by collecting as much soup as possible to donate to the Interfaith Food Pantry. This is a prime opportunity for everyone to contribute and show our love while getting wrapped up in the excitement of the game!
**When and Where:** Bring your canned soup donations to church on February 9th before we kick off the service. Make sure to stay tuned for the final whistle when we reveal which team’s box takes the victory!
So, team, let’s rally together and score a big win for those in need. It’s time to show what compassion looks like in action. Are you ready? Let’s make this Souper Bowl Sunday one for the record books!
Keep those cans coming, and may the best team win!
This is your Deacons, signing off from the Souper Bowl sidelines! 🏆✨ |

Food Pantry News
The Souper Bowl is doubly important now. Andrea Muscatello, executive director of the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry, sent out a recent update on the status of the operation. She wrote: |

My purpose is to communicate the changes that are being/will be implemented at the food pantry. Due to our projected budget shortfall, the following changes are being made.
• Discontinuing the purchase of syrup. We will continue to stock pancake mix. • Discontinuing the purchase of cake mixes and icing. We will continue to stock brownie mix. • Discontinuing the purchase of pork & beans and canned pineapple. • After current supplies run out, we will not longer be offering extra frozen food items for children. We will be able to distribute some items during the summer food program since the purchase will be funded through the grant. • We will not be purchasing eggs until the prices come down. At this time, the price of eggs is expected to continue to increase. • We will be adjusting the amount of soup that is offered to our customers.
Just One Can
In response to the budget shortfall, we are organizing a town-wide food drive for March 16 through March 30. We will be asking all our supporting faith communities, businesses, university groups, and other organizations to work with us to collect Just One Can from each resident of the town and each student. Should we meet our stated goal of 30,000 cans, we hope to be able to reduce our spending by $50,000 this year. |

Prayers and Squares
Please join us this Thursday, February 6, at 1:00 pm in the old kitchen for a meeting of Prayers and Squares. All are welcome! In addition to working on our quilts, we will have the opportunity to make “mini prayer squares” to share with people in need of prayers and comfort. Feel free to bring any projects you are currently working on to share a time of fellowship as well. We hope to see you this Thursday at 1 pm at Northside!
